Former Shadow Chancellor Chris Leslie told a LiTC audience that a ‘fiscal credibility rule’ rumoured to be under consideration by the Labour Party would “do the Tories’ job for them”.

The proposed rule is believed to include the reinstatement of services and spending cut by the current Government. Speaking at the event in London’s Guildhall, Chris warned that there was a serious gap between some members of the party and the electorate on the question of economic policy.

He said: “Labour has got to show we care about taxpayers’ money and the level of borrowing and the national debt. The public do not believe there is a magic money tree, we must not give the impression that we do.”
